Taras LUCHUK was born in 1962 in Lviv, where he currently lives. In 1985, he graduated from the Ivan Franko Lviv University with a degree in Classical Languages and Literatures, and received his Ph.D. from the Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature, National Academy of Arts and Sciences of Ukraine in 1990. He teaches World Literature and Creative Writing at the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. Taras Luchuk is a member of Shevchenko Scientific Society, and a member of PEN Ukraine. He participated in several international scholarly conferences and poetry festivals. He translates from Classical Greek, Latin, and German into Ukrainian. He presented the 2003 Solomea Pavlychko Memorial Lecture entitled Catullus Versus Sappho: Translation Beyond the Context of Gender Linguistics which was published as a book in 2005. He has received a number of fellowships, including the Fulbright Senior Scholar Fellowship (The University of Massachusetts Boston, USA, 2006), and the Grant from Österreichischer Austauschdienst (Vienna University, Austria, 2016).
