The Lexical Base of the Ukrainian Language as a Basis for the Vocabulary Component of the National Standard – this was the topic of the presentation given by Professor of the Department of General Linguistics S. N. Buk at the invitation of the National Commission for State Language Standards (https://mova.gov.ua). In 2024 the Commission became an associate member of the Association of Language Testers in Europe (ALTE) in order to study the European experience in the organisation of certification examinations in foreign languages and to introduce European standards in the process of determining the level of proficiency in Ukrainian as a foreign language. For the purpose of practical application and implementation of the State Language Standard “Ukrainian as a Foreign Language”. Levels of general proficiency A 1 – C 2″ and the introduction of a certification examination in the Ukrainian language for foreigners or stateless persons who intend to acquire Ukrainian citizenship or confirm their level of proficiency in the Ukrainian language, the Commission discussed with specialists and experts the current issues of international and Ukrainian practice of assessment and determination of the level of proficiency in a foreign language, including the Ukrainian language.
