Biography

Solomija Buk is a professor of the Department for General Linguistics at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (2022), doctor habilitated in philological science (2022).

She graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv magna cum laude (2001) with three specialties: “Ukrainian language and literature”, “Referent-translator” (English language), “Foreign literature”. In 2005, she defended her PhD thesis “The lexical basis of the Ukrainian language: selection and system-structural organization” (supervisor Prof. F. Bacevich). In 2004–2006, an assistant professor at the Department of Ukrainian Applied Linguistics; 2006–2007 assistant professor, 2007–2022 associate professor, since 2022 professor of the Department of General Linguistics of Ivan Franko  National University of Lviv. In 2021, she defended her habilitation thesis (doctor dissertation thesis) “Corpus lexicographic and linguistic statistical dimensions of Ivan Franko’s long prose fiction: vocabulary and text” (scientific consultant Prof. F. Bacevich).

Prof. Solomija Buk is an author of more than 100 scientific publications in Ukraine and abroad, as well as reviews of PhD, master’s and bachelor’s theses. She participated in more than 100 symposia, conferences and seminars, including all-Ukrainian and international (Austria, China, Germany, Poland, Russia, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Ukraine, France); in more than 10 research projects in Ukraine and abroad. She teaches educational courses at the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Foreign Languages: “Fundamentals of Quantitative Linguistics”, “Introduction to Linguistics”, “Introduction to Applied Linguistics”, “Fundamentels of Scientific Research”. She was an invited lecturer at Warsaw University and Lviv Polytechnic National University.

Prof. Solomija Buk is a supervisor of the post-graduate students K. Pron (PhD “Implementation of the speech genre of reproach in the great prose of I. Franko”) and T. Hnatyshyn (PhD “The concept sphere of MEMORY in Ukrainian, Polish, English and German linguistic cultures”).
